This deceptive dwelling fits easily in a small plot with curved walls maximising the potential of the site footprint. Natural materials and finishes used wherever possible, such as the timber frame structure insulated with Warmcell.

As described by the team at the Chilterns AONB, this sculptural dwelling has it's main walls constructed from hemp. A truly wonderful material. This creates a breathable structure that balances the moisture within the dwelling, amazing.

Contemporary development

This property was built on the premise of great aesthetics paired with energy efficiency. Natural building materials and finishes were used wherever possible, we ensured that there was daylight coming in from north and south into most rooms to maximise the natural light. 

Both ourselves and the family living in the property are very happy with the results!

A complete conversion and rebuild of a dilapidated 16th century barn. All original beams remain exposed with hemp infill and insulation with lime plastered interior. Air source heat pumps for hot water and heating. Underfloor throughout.

A double garage converted into a contemporary office storage space in the garden. The swooping Cor-ten roof with high windows brings maximum light into a partially sunken office space.

We were called in to rethink the ground floor of this typically 70's house, which comprised many small dark rooms. 
It called for a complete rethink and now comprises a dramatic entrance leading into the light airy internal space.

I’ve always dreamed of having a clean, modernist home, and I’m happy to say that Alice and her team at Atelier Cohen led the way to making that dream a reality! I couldn’t be more happy with the project, my house looks like it could be featured in a magazine. I expressed my wishes of having a clean, natural interior aesthetic and they truly delivered – the natural light in my newly designed home is to die for. They also helped me turn my dated, drab living room into a spacious but cosy space. I couldn’t recommend Alice more, if you’re looking for easy collaboration and top-notch design, you have to reach out to them!

I’ve worked with Alice on a few renovation projects and am still floored by her dedication to design and space planning. Never have I experienced a hiccup or missed communication with Atelier Cohen, and home projects tend to create those sorts of problems! I had the pleasure of working with Alice on redecorating my childhood home that hadn’t been touched up since I was a teen in the 80’s. I knew it needed a huge refresh aesthetically, but I wasn’t sure where to start.
